Botox in Beverly Hills
For as long as we’ve had mirrors, people have been fighting against wrinkles and other facial signs of aging. Fortunately, powerful new weapons have emerged in recent years; few have helped more women and men than the product known as Botox, now being offered by Dr. J.
Botox
A prescription-only, injection based treatment, Botox prevents muscle contractions that can cause frown lines and crow’s feet. It can also be used as a preventative against the likelihood of future facial wrinkling. Results typically appear within 24-48 hours after the treatment.
Botox vs. Facelift
You may have seen references to Botox as being a sort of chemical facelift. While there can be similarities in the results there are several important differences that patients need to be aware of. First and foremost, while Botox is highly effective, its impacts typically last for roughly three to six months. The benefits of a surgical facelift (rhytidectomy) may last indefinitely. At the same time, Botox involves essentially no recovery or downtime and, unlike a surgical procedure, patients can immediately resume their normal schedule after receiving a Botox inject.
Other Uses for Botox?
You may have heard about other uses for Botox that are being performed by some doctors. The best known of these alternative applications is to stop excessive underarm sweating.
What Should I Know About Botox?
Botox is extremely safe and effective. However, it’s important for patients to understand that it’s a powerful substance that is derived from botulin, a toxin. Serious side effects are rare, but patients should seek medical help immediately if problems swallowing, speaking, or breathing appear, or muscle weakness or any other symptoms emerge that might be related to paralysis, such as muscle weakness. More common side effects include discomfort at the injection site, headache, eyelid swelling, and blurred or double vision. Tell your doctor if these occur.
Prior to a procedure, tell Dr. J if any of the following conditions apply to you:
- Upcoming surgeries are planned.
- Prior facial procedures have been performed.
- Muscle/nerve conditions, including myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Easton syndrome, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).
- Trouble with facial muscles (e.g., trouble raising your eyebrows or weakness in forehead muscles).
- If you have had any prior treatments with a botulin toxin derivative, including Botox, Myoblosk, Xeomin, or Dysport.
- You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications.
